The Doctor smiled and nodded as she brushed off his comment with a wave and smile of her own. "Fair enough," he conceded, but he'd caught the word she used: bearable. Life wasn't supposed to bearable, it was supposed to be enjoyable to the fullest or else what was the point of it all: what was the point of him? He pursed his lips at that though. No use thinking that way. That only led to self pity and that was definitely not something he wanted to indulge himself in. . . ever if possible. He hadn't known her very long, but judging by the little he did know and the tone of her voice, this doctor didn't stand for self pity either.
"Oh, there's nothing wrong with observing time," he defended evenly. "Not everyone can stomach getting involved like I do." That was quite true, none of the others -bar the Master- had tried to get actively involved with other planets and species. It was part of the reason they had-- he stopped himself form thinking about that. It wasn't a part of his own history that he liked to dwell on even if it had led him to Earth. He smiled, allowing her words to pull him out of his thoughts of times long since passed. She was offering to help him out with any problems Earth might be having. She reminded him of the woman Asterith that he'd met only months ago: more intellectual perhaps, but she had the same sort of spark for adventure that she'd had. "Yeah, I'll keep that in mind, thanks" he told her.
"Well I imagine they'd be happy to hear that," he went on lightly as she mentioned never having hear of Torchwood. "Means they're doing their job right." He winked at that comment, but figured he was right at any rate. Torchwood shouldn't be too happy if everyone knew about them running around and saving the day. He let out a low whistle as she asked what had brought about his knighting. "Long story," he said with a chuckle. "Saved Queen Victoria from a lupine wavelength haemovariform, you'd call it a werewolf I suppose, while she was staying at the Torchwood estate." He scratched at his the back of his head, his eyes scrunching slightly. "Put like that, it's not so long, is it?" He rather liked how easy it was to be able to freely speak of these alien things with someone again.
Of course, he might have been throwing out a little too much information for her. She'd dealt largely with strange things focused around Earth, not in the universal spectrum. He could almost see the thought whirling around in her head as he suggested that they were from parallel dimensions. "Oh it's more than possible," he assured her. "It's just not supposed to be this easy to take people from them not since the Time Lock." he frowned as he tried to think of the reason at work behind all of this. He didn't allow himself to hope that it might mean a certain blond haired more-than-acquaintance of his might find her way back. "I've been to an alternate earth before," he explained. "It was all but impossible to go back and forth though."

Helen has indeed, learn't how to live by her mistakes. She is in fact, living proof of that. Scientifically speaking of course. Oh, she's experienced a whole century and a half, filled which as much adventure and knowledge as she could endure. Sure, it wasn't just all in self-pity. There were times when she'd gone crazy. Insane, certified crazy, as Will had mentioned before. Her mind became a little fragile during the past few decades, which was of course, one of the side effects. So basically, her mind would deteriorate eventually. Very slowly, and she couldn't do much about that. Scientist or not, that was one thing she was constantly trying to find a solution to.
She nodded respectively, with a hint of a smile, "I say that's better than sitting back and doing absolutely nothing. " Rather than letting events unfold in the most hazardous ways. Helen did the same thing. She'd rather take immediate action, than to wait around doing nothing. Knowing what various species around the planet are capable of, it was a useful trait to have. She already had analysts to find the solution, so it was just a matter of her and a fielf agent to take immediate action. Quite simple, really.
She let out a small laugh, "Oh, i'm sure it won't be long until I meet this Torchwood. It's mandatory that I visit similar institutes around the world. Like a network, it's highly important." Besides, she's got her own secret to keep. Beside other Sanctuaries around the world, there was only a handful of people that know what exists on the planet. Creatures of myths and legends, and embodiment of humans. Even gifted humans. It was important to keep them all safe from the predicted outcries of the public. One let slip of the tounge, and Magnus' Sanctuary would go up in flames. Along with both her career and her life.
Amazed, she nodded her head. "Well done, Doctor. You saved the Queen from a werewolf? I've fought a horde of them before with my collegues. Difficult to capture, they are. Actually, one of my collegues is one." Ah, Henry. She'd give anything to hear a witty remark from him right about now. Anything to give light to the current situation. At least she had him to laugh it off when situations did look bad. "Well, someone or something did seem to make the transition between worlds easy. They made it possible. And to strand a Time Lord in the process? It is far greater than we predicted."

The Doctor nodded at her words. "Oh yeah, where would be the fun in that?" he asked, the smile back on his face. "Whole world would pass you by. It'd get pretty boring after a while." Of course fun was only half the reason he did what he did. He needed to help people, well he liked helping people at any rate. Not just people either, any species that was in need of assistance. There was something in him that just loved helping those who couldn't help themselves. Sometimes it was an arrogance, a knowledge that he could succeed where others had failed, but mostly he just wanted to right wrongs and stop evil from winning at all costs. The man who makes people better, the Master had snidely described him. That was wrong though he should have said the man who wants to make people better. There was nothing certain about what he did.
"Well you can try," the Doctor said with a smile. "They're a bit hush hush, you know, but I'm sure if they knew what your organization did, they'd be more likely to meet up with you." To be fair he couldn't really speak on Torchwood's behalf, he wasn't a member of their staff and to be even more fair he wasn't sure many of them would be overly thrilled with him after Jack's little stunt. Though if they were all as bright as he was led to believe, they'd take it out properly on Jack and leave him blameless.
If nothing else had completely convinced him that they were not from the same plane of existence, her comment about the werewolves would have done it. Werewolves, as they were called, were in all actuality a species of alien and not at all common on Earth, and certainly not native, the one they had found they had destroyed before it could spread to anyone else -though the Queen couldn't be helped as it had become a historical fact. "Is he now?" he asked his eyebrows raised. Apparently they weren't so dangerous and bloodthirsty in parallel dimensions.
He nodded his agreement as she described the situation in plane terms. It was rather peculiar that they had managed to strand him in here as well. Though it was lucky for the others being stranded there that he was. "They're either really powerful, or extremely technologically advanced," he mused aloud. He pushed away the possibility that it might not be another Time Lord doing this. No, that was impossible with them all tucked away in the Time Lock. They couldn't hurt anyone there. "Doesn't matter," he said decisively, the amused spark returning to his eyes. "If there's a way in, there's a way out and if not. . .well might as well get cozy here, eh?"
