FANDOM: Torchwood
PERSONALITY:At a glance, one might see Ianto Jones as a quiet and reserved man. That would be a mistake. Underneath that mild mannered exterior lies a sharp-tongued and witty individual. He's the sort of person who is willing to do anything and everything for the people he cares about, sometimes disregarding his own sense of personal safety.
Ianto has a dry sense of humor: always ready with a witty retort or a muttered comment. He figures that with the line of work he's chosen, he might as well start enjoying life while he can. He takes his work very seriously, though, now that he's started going out on missions which isn't to say he didn't before. He had always hoped to advance from his position of coffee maker in his job. He does love a good cup of coffee and excels at brewing the stuff. He also prides himself on knowing just about everything he believes could come in useful for Torchwood.
He has started to come out of his shell recently, opening up to his team mates and trying to move on with his life after the loss of his girlfriend Lisa. It was hard for him to let her go and a part of his first love will always live on with him, but it gets easier and easier with time. Though it would probably be easier if a certain Captain wasn't always there making things all the more confusing for him. He doesn't know what's going on between himself and the captain, especially not since he ran off, but he's willing to let things go and see where things take him.
HISTORY:Ianto Jones was born in Cardiff, the first of two children, having one younger sister Rhiannon. His childhood was good for the most part; he was close to his father as a young boy. Some of his favorite memories involved the two of them going to the cinema to watch old styled films together. Things changed once he reached his teenage years. His family didn't see things quite the way he did. His father wanted him to have a better life than the rest of them, always pushing his hopes and dreams upon him. Making him study harder than the other kids and take extra classes when all he wanted to do was go out and play. He began to see his father as a dominating force in hie life, and not in the good way. One of his most vivid memories of his father was at a park when he pushed him too hard on the swings and knocked him clean off them, breaking his leg in the process. Rhiannon maintains it was an accident, but as time wore on Ianto began to wonder. In time he began to rebel against what his father wanted. He started hanging around with a bad sort of crowd. They convinced him to try shoplifting as an initiation into their group, but things went sour and he was caught by the police. After that embarrassment he stayed away from that lot.
Once it came time to head off to University, he eagerly left his house for London. He experienced freedom for the first time and he liked it. He graduated with honors, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Astronomy. Shortly after he graduated though he realized he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. He found a temp agency and allowed them to put him wherever they saw fit. He just needed a means to make a living. It was at his last temp job that he met Lisa. It was silly really, their meeting. He was working at a coffee shop, and she'd ordered a rather daring beverage, and he took a risk, chatting her up. She gave him her number and they started dating. He noticed quickly that she was only available at odd hours and would often run off in the middle of dates. At the time he began to wonder if it was something he'd done, but one afternoon he followed her and found her going into a strange building, after they'd heard about some threat to the human race, people standing on rooftops and threatening to jump. He watched as a laser shot out of the building, converging with a few others to blow up an alien space craft. When he confronted Lisa about it, she admitted to working for Torchwood. After she had explained it all to him, he asked if there was a position available for him. She was reluctant at first, but got him a meeting with the head of the division.
Things went smoothly for a little over a year, him having started out as a junior researcher in the department, until the cybermen started infiltrating Torchwood London. They began experimental upgrading and got to Lisa. He had only turned his back on her for a moment, and she was gone. They only managed to partially upgrade her though, and in the mayhem caused he carried her off to safety of their flat. A few months later, he had decided to move back to Cardiff. It was nearly a month later, when he was beginning to worry about supplies for her that fortune seemed to msile on him. While he was walking home one night, he met Jack Harkness. He saw him fighting against a creature, and working with Torchwood, and living in Cardiff, had taught him never to walk home unprotected. He used the bat he carried to bludgeon the creature. It took little effort to locate the Cardiff base and from there he imagined it would only be a matter of time until the Captain caved and allowed him to join their crew. Of course it took a bit more convincing than he'd thought and an emotionally perplexing encounter with a pterodactyl until he was welcomed to the team.
It was another year of making coffee, running errands, doing meaningless research and cleaning up after the crew until he could finally use Torchwood's resources to hire the man who could bring Lisa back to life, or so he had claimed. When he brought Lisa off life support she became deranged and went on an upgrading spree, trying to make humans better until finally implanting her brain inside another woman's head. Ianto was forced to accept that she would never be properly human again and attempted to execute her but was saved the trouble by his boss pumping her full of bullets. It took him months to get over her death and even then he still had trouble coping. It was made all the more confusing by his growing feelings for Captain Jack. Despite his feelings of guilt for betraying Lisa in some way, he allowed something to form between them, even if it was just flirting kept hushed and the occasional shag when the others were gone. He began to think something might be coming from this. . .whatever it was. And then, he left. Just up and disappeared and took his doctor hand with him.
No one was sure if he was coming back, and the cynical part of him agreed. The part of him that knew if something seemed to be too good it usually meant it wouldn't last. Though due to Jack's absence he had been promoted to field work. He began to become more open with Gwen and Owen and Tosh and they seemed to be accepting him, or at least humoring him which was just as good.
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:It wasn't often he found himself with any manner of free time at all. Least of all time to be brooding over events that should be ancient history by now. He had wandered off to the waterfall that joined the Never River to his beloved Pirate's Cove. Such beauty amongst those who pillaged and ravaged and generally wrought destruction across the entirety of the island. It was irony at it's greatest. He sat down on a rock, a simple one worn and weathered through years of turmoil caused by the coming and going of the boy, to rest his weary bones.
He let out a weary sigh, one that he hid from his fellow pirates. How would it look for the great Captain Hook, who had survived the crocodile and beaten Pan once and for all, to have lost his luster. It was not that he wanted to die, not today at any rate, nor was he tired of his life. It just lacked the thrill it once had. He had spent his days planning out his revenge on Pan, and when it had all come down to it. . .well it had lacked the flair, the gusto he had built up in his mind. Pan had gone too easily, he knew in his black heart. If he was ever going to kill the boy, and he had known one day the time would come, --he had known ever since his hand had been severed that he would kill Peter Pan himself or die trying: it could never just be sparring after that-- he wanted it to be a battle to end all battles. One that would be talked of for centuries to come.
Instead it had been pathetic. Pan had fought all right, but his heart wasn't in it. Perhaps if he had waited longer for the boy to come to terms with things. . .but he knew when to use something to his advantage. He sighed once more and took the wide brimmed red had off his head, allowing the sunlight that had finally started to spread across Neverland again to bath his face in a soft light. That thought puzzled him. It had stormed ever since he'd killed Pan: he'd expected it, but figured that with time and patience the sun would show it's face once again. He had expected at least a year of mourning from the Island though. Perhaps it had already been a year. He had never had an easy time of keeping track of time in Neverland.
